Do you state that I must install VPN on router in order to get the service?
Is there any other solutions without VPN when I am in US?
Can TVPAD4 work with ????2 without VPN when I am in US?

    Thanks

I am forwarding the following email from the TV Pad company. They asked customers to install the following apps. ???? is working now 100%. As regard to the apps that can watch TVB and CCTV, it could be out for a long time. I am very upset on that too.

All the DNSes ping fine and they can always turn off icmp packets so DNS works without pinging but that doesn't mean it'll work as any DNS will query the master/slave servers for what it's trying to lookup except what fully qualified domain name is it querying the DNS to resolve.

Thanks, downloaded the file and got it to work. My tvpad4 is working fine, but the old tvpad1 no longer works with any DNSs mentioned in the thread.

If it is OK to watch TV Pad 4 using VPN to make it has an IP from Asia, that means the servers of the TV Pad are still in operation. Either the US government or TV Pad is blocking US users with IP from the US. I think someone maybe able to come up with a jailbreak software just like ?????Maybe you can sell the TV Pads to Asia like Malaysia.

Tvpadfan, can you email them and have them release older 5.054 firmware?

For VPN, depending on which router you're using if the stock firmware has it or not... Otherwise you can use DD-WRT, Tomato and for Netgear R7000 users, there is even XWRT which is a port of the ASUS firmware. If you don't have another router, just make your desktop or notebook share it's internet connection and act as a gateway and connect to the VPN from the desktop or notebook, there are many ways to use the VPN without having to VPN all the devices.... You can even use your mobile phone as a WiFi hotspot for example and then VPN on the mobile phone.

When you use a VPN, do you get the Hong Kong TVB video on demand?

you can use stock firmware on the router to connect to the vpn server. set router to use login if it netgear if it's Linksys pick pptp. Any router you can use pptp connection. On Linksys you just need to know the host name and turn it into ip since Linksys only allow you to put in ip address. On netgear you need to put in the host name you don't need to know the ip. blow is 2 picture you can see one for Linksys and one is netgear they will just show you how it should look like.

This is getting very technical and complicated. First DNS, now VPNs. Way above me head. Yeah someone should develop a program to just jailbreak the TVpad instead. Haha.

What I meant by stock is that there are some people who have routers provided by the ISP that do not have the VPN capability so they can't even do VPN at all. And then there is the regular stock firmware assuming they bought the routers retail.
