Is there a way to force the firmware update to show itself? I'm in California, and am using the 49 DNS. I got the apps to show an update in the store, but the firmware update is still missing. Any way to get it to show?
what do you mean by root directory? the USB is empty when I plug it in the computer
I have a TVPAD4 (US) if anyone's is working please tell me how you got it to work, my parents have not been able to watch anything due to this outage for weeks. I don't know how to read chinese by the way so if you can please tell me in english thanks.
TVpad fw update to 5.06 with network set to auto but still won't work.
if I manually change the DNS then I get that "Use of TVpad is restricted. For more information, please contact the seller. " message
anyone get it to work with auto DNS? or is VPN the only way so far?

Lbe, Oh I didn't know it was meant to be for old firmware. My bad. But I followed your guide for firmware 5.060 because I updated mine way before all these thread started. I am using OpenVPN with my paid vpn connected to canada. its working 100% or at least all my TVB works and I live in nyc brooklyn.

If your changing the DNS on tvpad2, u need to put in the IP address, subnet mask and gateway. What are those and are they the same as before? I tried everything and still not getting anything

You have to choose manual input
DELETE old IP, sub-net mask and gateway
REENTER the same IP, sun-net mask and gateway.
TRY the new DNS.

Root directory always means the top directory of a drive so assuming it was G: then it would be G:\.

On the same screen before you change things where there is the Auto, click on that to get the other values, use the same thing and only change the DNS when you change the Auto to Manual.

My TVPAD1 also couldn't be authenticated even it is VPN to Hong Kong. F**k**g Creative Technology (TVPAD) just want to get rid of TVPAD1. I tried all different DNS servers which people reported working for TVPAD3 or TVPAD4 were not working for TVPAD1.
I am in US, using Tvpad4 v.5.054. When I changed my dns to 49..or 183..the tvpad said 'the use of tvpad is restricted, contact the seller' whenever I try to click into an app, it didn't let me go to app store either. With this restriction i can only access setting. If I changed to use other dns, unplug then plug back in, this restriction will be gone but the ads will not show up and i have trouble loading the apps, app store will have nothing to show up. Any one has similar problem? I have another tvpad4 downstairs using the same dns 49 but that is not restricted, i can use some of the apps for china channel live streaming and can access the app store for download. I tried all the dns listed, only the 49 and 183 are workable (can reach app store) but it cause a restriction on my tvpad4. I tried to help my mom reset her dns to 49 and hers also has the same restriction after i changed it. Anyone know what cause this problem?

You can choose update button to request update.
