Status update. I decided to do a factory restore stayed with v5.054 FW (TVP4). Re-installed all apps including the VPN Unlimited client. The restore resolved VPN client connective issue error message "VPN service was not started due to internal exception". However, I notice this client software is buggy as mentioned earlier. For example, if one alter the DNS network setting which could cause the VPN client to disable result having to restore again in my case.

Thank you so much Padman for willing to make a video on the openvpn with VPN unlimited. I'm thinking the main key to configure a 2nd router with VPN unlimited is to purchase a router that comes with the PPTP/L2PT functions? I think it would be extremely helpful to do a video on how to flash the router firmware with dd wrt.

After you get the .ovpn profile from vpnunlimited and installed openvpn apk

    install it with banna script
    http://openvpn-connect.en.uptodown.com/android

put all the .ovpn into a usb pen

    go to openvpn app
    menu->import->import from sd card
point to root->storage->external storage->sda1-> selec one of the profile you save in the usb

then go to menu preference and check
    reconect on reboot
    shortcut minimize
connection time out, set to continously retry

you can add all the server to the list but gotta import 1 at a time.

For those who can't get vpn app working after reboot or have never restore your device once. Just restore it once and put the 23 files from other thread and it will be good to go. Those 23 files are all the app came with your tvpad but updated version.

Some might ask why use openvpn when vpnunlimted apk does the samething. The biggest advantage is it has less chance of disconnect itself from apk freeze. When using vpnunlimited apk, i have to manually choose a server (with a mouse)reconnect every 3 days. It's close to impossible to teach a senior to reconnect via vpnunlimited app. After i changed to openvpn, it has been working for over a week without any service. I do recommend to leave the tvpad on at all time if you have seniors at home.

If you go to Office Depot, pick up a Linksys E1200 ($45.00) and have PIA access, you can follow the below steps to configure you second router. Please ensure you click "Save Settings" button on each page.

Please note that you have your second router connection to your #1 router which is connected to your ISP modem,

1.) Log into the second router. A CD comes with the router. You will need to install that software in a PC. Connect your laptop/pc to the seond router with a wire cable.

2.) PIA will have a difference user name and password for the VPN access. Please make sure you use the VPN login info in the router. Here is the picture

    4.) VPN_3_zpsnuzxj9xo.jpg

    5.) VPN_4_zpsym7opp9y.jpg

    6.) VPN_5_zps4hxqkeb0.jpg

7.) Connect TVPad with #2 router and change the DNS to 49.

    8.) Enjoy your shows.

As I look over the print screen to notice step 6 need an actual IP address number. The VPN Unlimited only provided a host name (ex. hk.vpnunlimitedapp.com), no IP address. VPN Unlimited provide provide manual PPTP settings and .ovpn files to configure. Does this mean on step 6 need to change the "Internet Connect Type" to PPTP instead of L2PTP to allow the host name? Sorry for the dumb question as still trying to learn this tech stuffs. I have already purchased a DLink DIR830L but may return it for this Linksys E1200 one.. Thank you for this very useful information!!

I am sorry step 6 screenshot was step 1. I just corrected it.

For Linksys router, it is required to use the host's ip address. You can request the host's ip address by using a command "nslookup" in a command prompt (x terminal in Mac).

nslookup will show the IP address of the DNS that the computer is setup to use. netstat -r would be the correct command as the ip is listed under gateway. The other way to do it is to do a tracert www.google.com and look at the ip of line 1.

Not if you manually configured DNSes in the computer and not take it by DHCP. All my computers use my own DNS's on the LAN. Android phones that are rooted will use Google DNSes for primary and Level 3 DNSes for secondary by default. The best way is really to just use ipconfig /all and look at the Default Gateway which will always be:
    10.0.0.0 - 10.255.255.255
    172.16.0.0 - 172.31.255.255
    192.168.0.0 - 192.168.255.255

    as defined in RFC 1918.

I am looking for the IP address of the host name. I am not looking for my system ip. Whatever, man. You are right, and I am wrong.

As long as, my TVpad 4 is working, I can careless.

There are routers out there that can do PPTP/L2TP out of the box.

All the recent dlinks can, the TPlink I posted in the other topic can.

dir-655 has L2PT option, but there's no where to put the preshared key. :(

Actually you were right, for some reason, I thought you were trying to find out the gateway on the LAN side, not the VPN Server's IP.

Looking at the screenshots provided by prochallenger, there is no pre-shared key since I thought pre-shared keys are used for the wi-fi lan side as part of WPA2-PSK (WiFi Protected Access 2 Pre-Shared Key) security.

Hi Orca4wd (and all other VPN Unlimited users),

I found that every time when I could not connect to a VPN server
(i.e. gets the VPN service was not started due to internal exception error ; or toggle the server to ON, but no connection has been made)
I will have to do the following to re-connect to VPN:
    1) exit VPNUnlimited app
    2) cold boot the TVPad
    3) invoke VPN Unlimited app
    4) select a good server location (e.g Japan)
    5) check a live streaming channel (e.g TVB Jade HD)

My TVPad's file system may have been corrupted as yours, but this seems to be a reliable workaround to get VPN service back.

    Question to you:
    1) After you performed factory restore your TVPad4 (staying with v5.054), would VPN Unlimited reliably able to connect and disconnect without throwing the exception error?
    2) When connected to VPN, would most (if not all) of the 23 apps work as intended?

    Thanks.

    Hello Fustrated -

    1) VPN works fine after the factory restored with installed all apps. No more "not started due to internal exception error " when toggle to different VPN servers. Make sure to leave the network setting to "Auto", do not push the acquire or change to "Manual" then acquire. I found changing network settings will bring back the un-reliable "exception error". Also, hesitate to power cycle TVP4 because it may cause VPN client to throw these "exception error" message. Keep in mind every time you uninstall/install VPN client which will register as a new device in your VPN Unlimited account, only allow 5 devices and can only delete one device per week. Tech support was able to clean-up the dup devices in my account this time.

    2) I only use the main 3 HK TVB apps which works fine when connect to H.K VPN server. However, YueTV will only work in the U.S. VPN server.

    Hi Orca4wd,
    Thanks for the heads-up on
    1) uninstall/install VPN client will register as a new device in your VPN Unlimited account
    2) contacting tech support to request for clean-up of dup devices

I will send a request to clear up my account before I perform factory restore just to be safe.
    Thanks for quick response.

Found a way to solve the VPNunlimited connection problem without resetting the TVPad4 to factory default.

Sideload Quick App Settings for Android https://apkpure.com/quick-app-setting/com.pandaz.app.quick. Open the app and then look for the VPNunlimited app settings, clear the cache and data and then exit.

Open VPNunlimited app, keyin the logon credentials and select your favourite sever, done.
