I had put vchannel on a firetv stick as a backup to my inlaw's tvpad2. The vchannel interface is not remote friendly so the media buttons don't work (so no pausing) and you can't navigate to 'click' the favorites icon (star). You can get by with just the direction pad, but expect to use a lot of clicks to get the selection to go where you want it to.
But aside from all that, it works well, though the media organization seems a bit haphazard. At the ad screen, just click the 'back' button on the remote to dismiss it (but using the back button elsewhere will actually quit vchannel).
I bought a bluetooth mouse to help with navigation, but the android version on the stick is too old to support it. I hear a new version of the firetv os will be released this month so hopefully I will get my mouse working.
There are workarounds such as using your phone as a touchpad or another app that lets you toggle your remote into mouse mode, but that seems too complicated for the inlaws and I'll just wait for the mouse to work.
I have an edited tomato123's vChannel.v.1.2.b.apk so that the back button now acts as a back button. Also, on first install, it will add some default channels to the list so you don't have to type it all on a remote. The default channels only work on a fresh install of the apk. If you are installing over an existing version without uninstalling, it will not put the channels in for you.
(I know the last two are duplicates of the first 2 but it's still a different link. It might be useful)
To exit the app now, you must go the 3 dots on the top right and you will see a "Quit vChannel" there. On the tvpad4, if you hit the menu button on the remote, it will open up the 3 dots menu right away.
*link removed, see few post below for v1.3
Notes: I am not a developer nor do I play one on TV. I did not remove any ads because the ads is how we get to get all these streams without actually paying money. If you really don't like the ads, there are other ways around it like rooting your device and installing adaway.
Edit: it might be a good idea to mirror the apk I have just in case I clean up my files on my account.
Hi guys. I am new to tvpad 4 and I am from Australia. Just got 2 questions if someone can please shed some light on: 1.My tvpad 4 (got CN written on the box) cannot play yuetv (mainly for tvb dramas) and I've got the latest firmware. I tried using auto DNS and the DNS 49.213.10.163 but still doesn't work. It gave the error: your location /zone cannot play the video (or similar meaning). But I hear other people in Australia that can watch tvb dramas with their tvpad 4 (not sure what app though). Any advice please?
2.I've installed VChannel and got it working but it doesn't have the option to pause or fast forward? Do I need another app to be installed to have these features available?

Can you also edit the app so that we can use remote control to stop or fast forward the video? Right now we must use a mouse which is very inconvenient for elderly people.

I can take a look but no guarantees. Like I said, I'm not a developer.
So I looked into how easy it is to add the seek, pause, play button from the remote to work on vChannel and I can tell you it probably can be done but not by me. There are too many calls to different .smali files to make it work.
The changes I did was simple compared to what must be done for this and it took me some time to figure that out.
I think you're reading news from last year. Vchannel works, but you have to update to the latest version. Which means you'll be getting ads again unless someone here plays with the apk and remove the ads again. You can also use adaway to bypass the ads.

The channels that are automatically added are:

Note: .smali is the coding used for the android.

Edit: 2/12/2016 - It looks like vChannel is down. Even the lastest review from the playstore is complaining.

Don't thank me yet. Edited vchannel apps don't seem to work anymore (as of today, 2/18).
I need to find time to investigate.
