Going to try VPN workaround

Good Morning,

We thought the TVPad3 was a great solution to allow my FIL to watch CCTV4 at our home in the USA. It was easy enough to get setup with a bit of research and planning. Then it stopped working (as many of you already know).

Thanks mostly to this forum, I changed the DNS a couple of times and got the DNS to be normal, but the server is still abnormal Error 1.

I assume I'm going to have to go the VPN route. Fortunately, I already have an account setup with VPN Unlimited, and don't yet have to pay additional for another VPN (I don't think). Another bonus, we just updated our router, and the old Cisco E3000 I assume will be fine to use as a 2nd router.

I'm going to read/watch to try to figure out how to actually do these things. Suggestions and comments are welcome.

Thank you.

Before trying the vpn method, try the paid dns solution first.

    Hi Padman,

Thanks for the help and support (I've read a good bit of your posts and watched a couple of your videos already).

I did see the paid dns thead. I think it's a possible solution.

After reading some things, it occurred to me that I've already got a 2nd router and have already paid for VPN, and perhaps paying monthly would be easier, but not necessary.

Do you think the CiscoE3000 and a VPN Unlimited account would work?

As long as the router can support a vpn connection then it should

For a few reasons, I just decided to use the paid DNS, just to see if it works and simply/quickly as I hoped.

I think it did. Followed links and instructions. It appears that CCTV played, then I played another channel, now I'm geting a 'loading' screen with music. At least I think it's a loading screen... maybe they are 'on break"?

In any event, much thanks to padman. I can live with $5CAD a month for not having to do anything else ;)

The real test is when my FIL gets a chance to watch it again.

FWIW - I'll still consider trying to hook up my old router and vpn... probably has a use.

There is music, and a little animation... wish I knew what it said/meant.

A taste of success... it loaded CCTV4, played a little, then started pausing/freezing.

    Suggestions?

    Not working at the moment.

Will try to check/verify DNS, as I think it may have changed.

    From hosting client area:

DNS Server IP (US West Coast-LA):
DNS Server IP (US East Coast-NY): 168.xxx.xx.xxx
    DNS Server IP (Canada1 East-MTL):
Your current external IP matches with The following IP has been authorized:

My current external IP and the IP authorized do NOT match the ones on the tvpad setup... is that something I should change?
Do I need to change the gateway as well?

Check the topic in the other forum. Tvpad 1-3 are getting shut down

Yes, but it's not yet shutdown.

Today is 7 days since I purchased. I don't mind paying for a 'short' month. But if I can't get it anymore, I'd like to be refunded.
