The DNS ip addres is the server your TVpad wants to talk to.

Then why is a VPN router needed if the tvpad is talking to the dns.
  • padmanpadman Moderator

Because the DNS seems to be geo blocking US addresses or blocked by the great firewall of china

ok guys.i made my tvpad1 works .i tried couple kind of routers and no luck,it is not easy as the guy posted here.i follow the guide from here to setup vpn on router and i just cant connect to server,so i do alot of search on goolge about vpn setup on a router.and i made it finally. to setup my 2nd router with flashed tomato firmware vpn version on my linksys wrt54g . just open your config file provided by vpn unlimited with a wordpad. and copy the CERTIFICATES and PRIVATE KEY to the router vpn tunneling.and start to run.thats it. i got mine for life time unlimited only $39.the green man finally back.make sure u change the 49 dns after u success.B)

It is all depend on which VPN service you have. I use PIA VPN service, and it works on that setup. Other people use the same service and router, and it works for them.

    Hi:
Are you mean you subscribe your PIA VPN here.

I purchase the Linksys router (same as you) from amazon & come today. And I try to follow your step to set my TVPad back to life again even I am not a tech guy like you,

If you set your router 2 to point to Hong Kong server, you can connect your laptop to your router2 and go to tvb.com and watch myLive TVowen Wrote:

    prochallenger.
I just subscribed the VPN Unlimited instead of PIA VPN since cheaper, plus not sure I can confg & set all up myself just in case.

    My question is.

After they ask what OS system to download, I selected Win 10. I guess they auto install the software & config file to my PC. Now is done, what is my next step. Should I start the step 1 you mentioned below ?

If yes, do I need ...... VPN Unlimited will provide you with PPTP and openvpn config file to use on a hardware router?

    Hi,

Since you have VPN Unlimited, I really don't know.

I know that Linksys does not use config profile.

You might want to check or read up from their website on how to config a router.

Sorry. Someone might able to help you on this one.

Once you purchased from vpn unlimited, send them a support email and ask them to provide you with a pptp and openvpn login

    Padman,
Finally the supporter replied & said
We can provide manual PPTP settings and .ovpn files, but you will need to configure your device using our settings by yourself at your own risk. Will you be able to do that?--

By the way, once I got those, what I can do for that setting & risking.... ?

Once you go the VPN route do all apps work or do certain apps still get blocked? Also correct me if I am wrong but VPN will for TVpad 3 as well as 4?

There's no risk. They just don't wanna support configuring your device.

I am not sure if you resolved your issue with connecting via PIA with 5.06. I went the cheap and simple way and loaded OpenVPN onto my TVPad4, imported the profile logged in and connected to Canada (i am from nyc) with OpenVPN and my tvp4 is working fine. The connection will disconnect every 2 weeks i think but all you need to do is hit the connect button and you're up and running for another 2 weeks.

I never tried the router way but I will try soon when I get a router.
