A1 killed my tv

From what I've learned A1 is just a rebranded HTV box right? I got a used A1 from a relative. It worked fine for them for years. After a few months my tv won't turn on. TV repairman who's familiar with it says electrical inputs killed my tv. He's come across many of these A1s. That's $250 for a new motherboard. Anyone else have this problem.
